Ooyala Names New Chairman

By Ryan Lawler

First a new CEO, now a new chairman of the board.

Online video platform provider Ooyala Inc. announced today that investor Fred Warren is taking over chairman duties after two years of serving on the company's board.

The new chairman has more than 30 years of experience investing in tech startups. Warren co-founded Brentwood Associates in 1972, and also organized Sage Venture Partners in 2000.

At Brentwood, Warren was one of the earliest investors in Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), among others. He was also one of Ooyala's original investors.

Ooyala has been in the midst of some serious changes as of late, as the company ramps up its business with new management and sales hires.

The chairman appointment comes just a week after Ooyala named former Agile Software CEO Jay Fulcher as its new CEO. Ooyala also recently added some senior sales personnel from Move Networks Inc., Akamai Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), and The FeedRoom.

According to president and founder Bismarck Lepe, Ooyala has doubled its total head count since the beginning of the year.
