Wunderlist, iPhone’s #1 Cloud Connected Productivity App, Crosses One Million Unique Downloads, And Expands Footprint To Android Platform

6Wunderkinder Reuses 90% of its Appcelerator-Built Code to Port from iPhone to Android in Just Four Weeks; App Now Available on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows and Mac Desktop

BERLIN, GERMANY and MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – March 9, 2011 – 6Wunderkinder, makers of Apple App Store’s #1 productivity app Wunderlist, announced today that it is launching its app on the Android platform. Over the past two months, Wunderlist has become a phenomenon in the crowded productivity tool category – with users downloading the app more than one million times and logging more than 6 million tasks. Wunderlist’s availability on Android follows closely on the heels of Wunderlist HD being released on the iPad.

The company says that its ability to expand to new devices and platforms so quickly is because Wunderlist was built using Appcelerator’s Titanium platform. "Time-to-market is critical for us, and Titanium lets developers write mobile apps for multiple platforms from one code-base. We were able to publish Wunderlist to iPhone, iPad, Android, PC, and Mac while reusing 90% of the base code. That’s an enormous cost and time savings compared to building each app in a separate language, not to mention the time-to-market advantage this has given us," noted Christian Reber, CEO of 6Wunderkinder.

Creating a Great App Experience

A driving force behind Wunderlist’s success is that it is that doesn’t require more time to use than it saves, like so many productivity tools do. The company mirrored how people manage their tasks now — by using lists, "sticky" notes, email — and made it faster to do on a mobile and desktop app.

Wunderlist also enhances email functionality by allowing users to manage tasks right from their inbox. The company also included personalization into the app, such as customizing backgrounds or selecting images, which most productivity tools overlook.

"To create such a great user experience we had to tap into all the native features of the phone," said Sebastian Kreutzberger, CTO of 6Wunderkinder. "Appcelerator’s Titanium platform let us integrate things like push notifications and native UI controls so that it really looks and feels like a native app."

Sharing Through the Cloud

Today’s release of Wunderlist for Android allows users to share their task lists with one another, enabling easy collaboration among colleagues, family, and friends. For example, users can add tasks to one another’s lists, and then send a push notification to alert them that a new task has been added. This sharing is possible because Appcelerator’s Titanium enables Wunderlist to automatically sync to the cloud. As users install apps like Wunderlist on their mobile phones, home PCs, and work laptops, syncing information to the cloud rather than keeping it local becomes central to usability.

"Wunderlist is a great example of how the cloud is being used almost everywhere in mobile apps," says Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator. "Wunderlist allows portability of tasks across the multiple devices that we use throughout the day because it’s syncing to the cloud."

Availability for Wunderlist for Android

Wunderlist is available for free as an iPhone, iPad, Windows and Mac desktop and now Android app, with plans for a web app coming later this week. Interested parties may download the free Android app here: http://www.6wunderkinder.com/wunderlist.
